Reign Deal the Aces a Loss
in 3-2 Shootout Victory

Carrozzi returns with a 5-game unbeaten streak

ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign (41-19-5-3), proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, defeated the Alaska Aces (42-16-2-8) 3-2 in a shootout at Citizens Business Bank Arena Saturday night.  The Reign played before a crowd of 8,143 for the third annual Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley Jersey Night.

The game began with Alaska taking control of the first period outshooting the Reign 13-5.  At the 8:23 mark Wes Goldie scored his record-breaking, 369th ECHL goal to give the Aces a one goal advantage.  Jason Beeman made the most of the Reign’s time in the Alaska end taking the puck up the boards.  He dropped a pass to Cameron Burt who quickly sent it back to Beeman where he fired a shot past Aces' Gerald Coleman’s glove side to even the score.

Ontario countered Alaska’s energy in the second frame with much more time spent in the Aces' zone.  Through the back-and-forth play, two power plays apiece, and several shots hitting the posts, the period was scoreless keeping the game tied 1-1.

The teams were again evenly matched in the final period of the game.  Around the nine minute mark, Bill Bagron had a breakaway opportunity taken away by an Aces defenseman resulting in a penalty shot chance but he couldn’t convert it.  Tristan King gave the Reign a one-goal lead with a rebound goal off Vincent LoVerde’s blueline slapshot.  Kyle Kraemer also earned an assist on the play.  With just 1:43 left in regulation, Alaska netted the tying goal sending the game into overtime.

After five minutes of the overtime frame neither team found the back of the net forcing a shootout decision.  Beeman scored the shootout winning goal for the Reign in the second round and Derek Couture secured the win for Ontario with his fifth round, backhand shot.

Chris Carrozzi (17-7-2-2) took the win saving 34 of 36 shots extending his unbeaten streak to five games, while Coleman (18-4-0-3) took the shootout loss stopping 24 of 26 shots.
