REIGN FILLS NEEDS AT BOTH ENDS OF ICE
Team Adds Skilled Forward and Powerful Defenseman
ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, announced the signing of forward Jordan Morrison and defenseman Luke Beaverson to standard contracts for the 2010-11 season.
Forward Jordan Morrison, 24, has a knack for getting the puck to open teammates and can light the lamp himself. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. During his 2008-09 rookie season, he was second in team scoring with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers. He was eighth overall in league scoring with 74 points (26G, 48A) in 63 games and was named to the 2008-09 ECHL All-Rookie Team. He finished second in Rookie of the Year balloting to teammate Bryan Ewing. He played seven games in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in between the other two teams during the 2008-09 season adding a point to his stats.
The Uxbridge, Ontario Canada native split ice time between the Florida Everblades, Johnstown Chiefs, and Wheeling Nailers (all of the ECHL) over the 2009-10 season. He accumulated a total of 32 points (11G, 21A) in 65 games with the three teams.
Prior to his rookie season with the Nailers, Morrison played two seasons with Dalhousie University in Canada and before that he was a member of the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League for four years.
Luke Beaverson, 26, is a big-bodied blue-liner capable of del
ivering bone-jarring hits. The 6-foot-4-inch stay-at-home defenseman plays an excellent physical game and is confident with the puck.
The St. Paul Minnesota Native was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and played in their system since 2007. Beaverson played 28 games with the Florida Everblades (ECHL), 50 with the Rochester Americans (AHL) and logged ice time with the Panthers during pre-season play.
Prior to that, Beverson had a four-year college career with the University of Alaska-Anchorage and played two seasons with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League. He was named team captain with each team.
The start of the Reign’s third season will be on Saturday, October 23, 2010 against the Stockton Thunder at 7:00 PM. Mini-plans are on sale now for as low as $85 and full-seasons start at just $325.
