Reign Solid at Both Ends, Shut Out Wranglers 6-0
Carrozzi Earns Second Consecutive Shutout
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (19-12-1-2), proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, shut out the Las Vegas Wranglers (21-11-1-3) 6-0 before 6,416 at Citizens Business Bank Arena Wednesday. Steven Tarasuk notched two goals; C.J. Stretch, Kyle Kraemer and Kevin Estrada each had one goal, one assist.
Kraemer and Tristan King set up Tarasuk’s fourth goal of the season at 4:13 of the first period to give the Reign a 1-0 lead. Kraemer hit Tarasuk with a cross-ice pass as he crept down from the point and the defenseman rifled a shot into the top of the net.
Kraemer upped the Reign lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal at 9:31 of the second period. Pat Bowen collected the puck after a faceoff in the Las Vegas end and fed Kraemer at the right circle where he fired the puck through traffic. Ontario took advantage of confusion around the Wranglers net to score its third goal of the contest. A scrum developed to which distracted goaltender Joe Fallon as players fought for the puck to his left. Estrada fooled everybody as he snuck around the net and jammed the puck inside the right post before Fallon could get across the crease.
The Reign piled on in the third period. Stretch tipped Estrada’s pass past Fallon to finish off a well-executed 2-on-1 just forty seconds into the frame. Tarasuk netted his second goal of the game at 8:44, as Chris Huxley’s shot bounced off the end boards and Tarasuk was in position to snap it home. Brady Calla capped the Reign scoring with under a minute left in regulation and Ontario beat Las Vegas 6-0.
Chris Carrozzi (5-5-2) stopped 25 shots in the win, while Joe Fallon (16-6-4) took the loss with 21 saves on 27 shots.
The Reign's fifth shutout set a new single-season high for Ontario and ended Las Vegas sniper, Eric Lampe's point streak at 15 games. As Carrozzi's third shutout, he tied 2009-10 Reign netminder Curtis Darling for most shutouts in a single season.
