Reign Double-Up on Eagles and Win 4-2
Chris Carrozzi Extends Unbeaten Streak to Eight Games
ONTARIO, Calif.- The Ontario Reign (21-14-2-2), proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, defeated the Colorado Eagles (22-14-0-4) 4-2 on Saturday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena before the largest crowd of the season, 8,984 were in attendance.
Bill Bagron put the Reign up 1-0 for the second consecutive night with his 14th goal of the season at 4:20 of the first period. Bagron cruised down the side boards and let loose a long-distance wrist shot that beat Kyle Jones cleanly. Chris Huxley and Derek Couture assisted on the goal.
Kyle Kraemer and Mike Montgomery scored markers 89 seconds apart to give Ontario a 3-0 lead in the second frame. Kraemer’s goal at 7:43 came on the power play as he clanked a shot off the crossbar from the right faceoff dot. Defensemen Pat Bowen and Alan Mazur tallied helpers. Mike Montgomery extended the Reign lead to 3-0 with his first professional goal at 9:02, as the 6-foot-3 rookie snapped the puck over Jones’ glove.
Patrick Cey took advantage of a broken play in the Ontario corner to get Colorado on the board at 14:03, but Couture answered with his 18th of the season at 18:35. The Reign sniper crashed the Colorado net wearing Aaron Schneekloth like a backpack and somehow managed to tip Mazur’s pass into the rafters of the net.
Adam Chorneyko capped off the scoring for the night with a goal at 8:41 of the third period and the Reign won it 4-2.
Chris Carrozzi played exceptionally well in net, stopping Liam Huculak all alone on his doorstep and denying Riley Nelson’s short-handed breakaway opportunity. The Reign netminder extended his unbeaten streak to eight games, as he hasn’t lost a game in regulation since a 3-1 loss in Alaska on Dec. 16.
Carrozzi (7-5-3) stopped 30 of 32 shots in the win, while Jones (17-7-3) got the loss with 30 saves.
