Jon Landry Records Two Points In Reign Debut
ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, defeated the Victoria Salmon Kings, 4-1, on Friday evening before a crowd of 6,288 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
Defenseman Andrew Martens gave the Reign a 1-0 lead when he redirected a shot from right wing Tony Voce past goaltender Glenn Fisher on his stick side at 15:53, only eight seconds into a power play. Defenseman Jon Landry registered the secondary assist on the goal in his first appearance with the Reign since being traded from Cincinnati on November 4th.
Center Jon Francisco got sent to the box for a high-sticking double minor when the top end of his stick poked through the cage of Fisher’s mask and drew blood from his nose. Fisher skated over to the bench to get patched up before returning to the net to finish out the first period.
Victoria center Olivier Latendresse tied the game at one and beat Curtis Darling when he snapped the puck into the top shelf during a power play after receiving a feed from left wing Chad Painchaud.
Less than four minutes later, Tony Voce picked up his second point of the night on an odd-man rush into the zone. Defenseman David Walker sent a feed across the ice to Voce, who buried the puck behind Fisher. Right wing Geoff Walker picked up an assist on the play and the Reign took a 2-1 lead.
Jon Landry claimed his first goal of the season when he sniped the top left corner of the net after David Walker sent a pass across to Landry just in front of the blue line. Landry’s goal gave the Reign a two-point lead and closed out scoring in the second period as the clock ran down.
Left wing Peter Lenes scored the third unanswered goal for Ontario at 8:16. Forward Dwight King came streaking down the left wing side of the ice and fired off a shot that was redirected into the bottom right corner of the net and over the goal line by Lenes. Forward Michael Pelech picked up the secondary assist and Ontario went on to win the game with a final score of Reign 4, Salmon Kings 1.
