REIGN BEAT GRIZZLIES, 4-3 IN OVERTIME
Pat Bowen Scores Game-Winning Goal, Finishes with Two Points
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, beat the Utah Grizzlies 4-3 in overtime before 2,250 at the Maverik Center on Monday night.
The Reign got on the board first, as Jordan Morrison fought off a check and pushed the puck into the slot where Chaz Johnson picked it up and fired it past Andrew Engelage for the 1-0 lead.
Utah took a 2-1 lead before David Walker evened it at two apiece on the power play with his third goal of the season. Dusty Collins carried the puck into the Utah zone and pulled up along the half boards while he waited for the play to develop. Collins dished it to Johnson in the slot who sent it to Walker streaking through the right circle and Walker punched it into the net before Engelage could get across the crease.
The Grizzlies re-established a one-goal lead, 3-2, but Michael Pelech notched the leveler. Pat Bowen’s slap shot took a lively bounce off the glass to Pelech in front of the net and he buried it for his fifth of the season.
With a faceoff in the left circle of the Utah zone, Collins won the faceoff, Aaron Lewadniuk knocked it to the point, and Pat Bowen fired a rocket into the net to give the Reign a 4-3 overtime win.
Johnson, Bowen, and Collins each had two points on the night for the Reign and Beau Erickson made 35 saves for the win. Engelage finished with 33 saves.
Tonight’s three stars were:
1) ONT – Pat Bowen
2) UTA – Matt Clarke
3) UTA – Tom May
