Christie became only the fourth coach in ECHL history to earn 400 wins on Nov. 6, 2013. His 333rd victory on Feb. 4, 2012 gave him the recognition as the fourth winningest coach in the ECHL. Christie was voted 2010-11 CHL Coach of the Year by his peers, as he took the Bloomington PrairieThunder from four consecutive losing seasons to a 37-22-0-7 record and a playoff appearance in his first year at its helm. The team earned CHL Hardest Working Team honors under Christies leadership, a style he has brought with him to Ontario.
Christie has also been successful in his 10 seasons behind the bench in the ECHL. He achieved nine winning seasons, made the playoffs in eight of those 10 seasons.
Christies other accomplishments include coaching in the ECHL All-Star games in 2001 and 2004, as well as the AHL All-Star game in 2008. He served the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons as an Assistant Coach for the AHLs Chicago Wolves. Peoria recognized Christie's franchise-record 233 coaching victories with a spot in the Peoria Rivermen Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010.
As a player, Christie skated nine seasons split between the ECHL, AHL, and IHL. He had a tenacious playing style and wasnt afraid to venture into the corners in either zone. He led the 1999-2000 Peoria Rivermen to an ECHL championship as a player/assistant coach and assisted on the game-winning overtime goal which allowed the team to hoist the Kelly Cup in victory.
