All-Time Leading Reign Scorer and ECHL MVP Sign with Ontario
Kraemer and Costello join the team
ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, back-to-back Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, have brought back all-time Reign point leader, Kyle Kraemer, and the 2011-12 ECHL’s Most Valuable Player, Chad Costello.
Kraemer, 28, returns to Ontario for his fourth season after a brief stint with the newest CHL team, the St. Charles Chill, based out of his home state of Missouri. The forward played nine games with the Chill and was one of their leading scorers with seven points (4g, 3a) in that time.
Last year Kraemer was the Reign’s top scorer with 71 points (30g, 41a) in as many games. The St, Louis, MO native holds the Reign records for most all-time points, goals, and assists with 71 goals and 94 assists for 165 all-time points. He also holds the records for most points and assists earned in a single season with his 71 points and 41 assists in 2012-13.
The 5-foot-10, 187-pound forward was earned the ECHL Plus Performer of the Month award in November 2012 when he posted a +14 in 10 games. At the end of the season, Kraemer was named to the ECHL Second All-Star Team.
Costello, 27, also joins the Reign from the St. Charles Chill where he led the team with nine points (4g, 5a) in six games.
Costello, a native of Johnston, IA, split his 2012-13 season between the Colorado Eagles (ECHL) and Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL). The forward played 36 games with Colorado racking up 58 points (17g, 41a) in that time earning him Player of the Week and Player of the Month recognition in November 2012. Following his time with the Eagles, Costello was called up to play with Bridgeport for 21 games where posted 12 points (3g, 9a). He returned to Colorado to end the season and play in six postseason games registering seven points (3g, 4a).
In 2011-12, Costello was named ECHL Most Valuable player with 76 points (29g, 47a) in just 47 games played. Other career hi-lights for Costello include tying the ECHL record for more short-handed goals in a single game with three in December, 2012, being named to the NAHL’s All-Rookie team during the 2006-07 season, and earning the most points, 76, in the USHL during 2005-06.
Both graduates of Northeastern University, Costello and Kraemer made their professional debuts with the Reign organization; Kraemer’s full rookie season was spent with Ontario in 2010-11 and in the 2007-08 season, Costello made his professional debut with the former Ontario Reign club, the Texas Wildcatters.
