Ontario, CA – The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that forward Brett Sutter has been named the second team captain in AHL-Reign history.

Sutter takes over the captaincy from Vincent LoVerde, who was the Reign captain the last two seasons and joined the Toronto Maple Leafs organization this summer.

Forwards Justin Auger, Michael Mersch, Andrew Crescenzi and defenseman Kevin Gravel will serve as alternate captains. Mersch and Auger will wear the “A” during home games and Crescenzi and Gravel will wear the letter on the road. Home and away responsibilities will rotate every few games so all four players receive home and road duties.

Sutter, 30, signed a two-year agreement with the Reign this past summer and finished fifth on the Reign in scoring last season (36 points) and second in goals (18) in 66 games played (fourth). The Viking, Alberta, native enters his 11th professional season and second full campaign with the Reign.

Acquired at the 2016 NHL Trade Deadline from Minnesota, Sutter holds 43 points (23 goals, 20 assists) in 83 career Reign games. In 678 AHL contests with Ontario, Iowa, Charlotte, Abbottsford and Quad City, Sutter totaled 118 goals and 169 assists for 281 points. He was selected by the Calgary Flames in the sixth round (179th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

He previously served as a team captain with the Charlotte Checkers for three seasons from 2011-2014.

In 60 NHL contests with Calgary, Carolina and Minnesota, Sutter nabbed two goals and eight assists for 10 points.
