GOALTENDER MATTIAS SHOLL RECALLED FROM GREENVILLE, DEFENSEMAN TIM REGO LOANED TO GREENVILLE

The Ontario Reign announced today that goaltender Mattias Sholl has been recalled from the Greenville Swamp Rabbits while defenseman Tim Rego has been loaned to Greenville. 

Sholl, 25, earns his first AHL callup after appearing in 12 games with Greenville this season posting a 4-5-2 record with a 2.19 goals-against average and .926 save percentage. The Hermosa Beach, CA native signed a one-year AHL contract with the Reign on Jul. 30, 2025. He played four games with the Swamp Rabbits at the end of last season posting a 2-2-0 record with a 2.81 GAA and .927 SV% after a four-year collegiate career at Bemidji State. 

The 5-foot-11, 180lb netminder appeared in 117 games at Bemidji State collecting a 52-51-12 record with a 2.58 GAA, .904 SV%, and six shutouts. During the 2023-24 season he was named CCHA Goaltender of the Year and to the First All-Star Team helping the Beavers to a Regular Season Championship. In 2022-23 he was selected to the CCHA Second All-Star Team after earning a spot on the CCHA All-Rookie Team during the 2021-22 campaign. 

Prior to his college career, Sholl was named NAHL Goaltender of the Year in 2019-20 as a member of Fairbanks Ice Dogs while being named to the Second All-Star Team, (Midwest) Goaltender of the Year, MVP, and All-Star Team after leading the league the prior season in GAA (1.69) and SV% (.935) while being named to the All-Rookie Second Team. In two seasons in the NAHL he accumulated a 46-9-7 record with a 1.88 GAA, .928 SV%, and nine shutouts. He played one season in the USHL with the Youngstown Phantoms during 2020-21 notching a 7-16-2 record with a  3.68 GAA and .888 SV%. 

Rego, 25, was recalled from Greenville last Friday and did not see action over the weekend in Colorado. He has collected three points (2G, 1A) in 12 games with Greenville as a rookie. He made his AHL debut on Oct. 24 in a 5-2 win at Abbotsford and has appeared in two games with the Reign this season. The 6-foot, 187lb right-handed shooting defender signed a one-year AHL contract with Ontario on Apr. 3, 2025 and tallied two assists in five games with Greenville at the end of the season. 

The Mansfield, MA native played four seasons at Cornell University from 2021-25 accumulating 54 points (14G, 40A) in 136 career games. Last year he was named to the ECAC All-Tournament Team, Regular Season Third All-Star Team, First Team All-Ivy, while helping the Big Red to an ECAC Championship. He served as an alternate captain leading all Cornell defensemen with 24 points (8G, 16A) and a plus-15 rating in 36 games. 

Prior to college hockey, Rego played two seasons with the AJHL’s Brooks Bandits from 2019-21 recording 77 points (29G, 48A) in 72 games. He finished second among league defenders during the 2019-20 season with 61 points (24G, 37A) in 54 games and was named to the league’s South All Rookie-Team and South All-Star Team.
