GOALTENDER PHEONIX COPLEY RECALLED BY LA KINGS
The LA Kings announced today that they have recalled goaltender Pheonix Copley on emergency basis from the Ontario Reign.
Copley, 33, has appeared in 13 games with Ontario this season posting a 7-6-0 record with a 3.13 goals-against average and .885 save percentage. He has won three straight games and five of his last six after starting the season 2-5-0. The Anchorage, AK native signed a one-year contract with LA on Jun. 16, 2025. He was placed on waivers by the Kings on Oct. 1 and was claimed by Tampa Bay on Oct. 2. Copley was then traded back to the Kings on Oct. 15 and was loaned to Ontario on Oct. 23. He was recalled from LA on Nov. 19 and backed up for the Kings on Nov. 20 in San Jose before being loaned back to the Reign the following day.
Last season he appeared in 42 games last season for the Ontario Reign posting a 24-17-1 record with a 2.49 GAA, .904 SV %, and two shutouts. Copley’s 42 games were an AHL career-best while his 24 victories were the fourth-most among all league goaltenders and tied his single team career- best following his 24-6-3 campaign with the Kings in 2022-23. He played in two Calder Cup Playoff games for the Reign and made one appearance for the Kings last season in relief.
Dating back to the 2022-23 campaign, he has appeared in 66 games for Ontario posting a 37-27-2 record with a 2.62GAA and .902 SV% while skating in 46 games for the Kings accumulating a 28-7-5 record with a 2.75 GAA, .897 SV%, and two shutouts. Prior to joining the Kings as a free agent in July 2022, Copley spent eight years with the Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues organizations. He appeared in 77 career regular season NHL games, owning a record of 44-16-8 with three shutouts, a 2.84 GAA and .898 SV%.
The 6-foot-4, 205lb netminder is a veteran of 292 career AHL games with the Reign, Hershey Bears, and Chicago Wolves earning a 155-99-29 record with 17 shutouts, a 2.54 GAA, and a .909 SV%. In 19 AHL postseason games, he has a 9-9-0 record with a 2.09 GAA and .934 SV%. In 2020-21, Copley and the Bears were recognized with the Harry Holmes Memorial Award for the best goaltending duo in the AHL.
